As part of our ongoing quest to improve ULTI.TV we are considering changing the way we are set up as an organisation. This involves changing our legal entity from a trading name to a separate enterprise. This could be a not for profit organisation, or a mission driven organisation where profits go to the mission, or something else! There is a fair bit to consider in moving to a new legal structure, this is a great opportunity to have a look at what are we really here to do?

In considering this question we need your help. ULTI.TV can not do what we do without you, our supporters, crew members, staff members, commentators, editors, players, fans and everyone in between.

As such you are all important stakeholders in ULTI.TV and we want your input.

So, what are we really here to do?

A deeper look at our purpose, our values, and the questions we’re asking ourselves.

We want to share a picture of the future that keeps returning — something we can’t unsee any more.

Imagine full grandstands for an Ultimate event every weekend, everywhere.
People cycling, driving, taking the train to a local field with a small, charming grandstand or just on the sidelines with camping chairs. Families sharing drinks and food. Kids running around. Dogs. Friends. Players. Supporters.

On the field: Men and womxn playing together. Spirit at the centre. A fair, meaningful game. Players responsible for the calls.

Tickets are cheap because the whole event is sustainable, volunteer-powered, and community-driven. Nobody works too hard, and people love doing it.

Meanwhile, in homes across the world, the matches are native on people’s TV, free to watch. Because ULTI.TV is present with a tent and a polecam next to the field, pointing at the grand stand. People gather around like they do for football or rugby — but with more conversation, more curiosity, more connection. Some watch the stream with commentary; others have it on in the background while cooking or hanging out.

Sports bars show the games are on screens. Usually on mute, so people can have conversations while the games pursue, but during the final game(s) the whole bar hears the commentary. People look up. They pay attention. They cheer. They care.

Imagine this every weekend.
And imagine this in multiple places at the same time.
Not every match needs to be for the world cup — just fair, spirited, and easy to watch.

This is the future we imagine.
And we think many of you imagine it too.

Behind the streams, on the backend, is how it works, we see people being trained on site, in Europe and Australia we’ve built the training grounds and improve them throughout the year, they exchange people for a 4 - 8 weeks or something.

We see our two camera systems in use everywhere around the world, also across the Americas, Asia and Africa. It’s a system that scales. It’s the system that teaches people to point the camera AND direct, follow disc AND make a show finding the people that the commentators talk about or show the colour of the sidelines.

A global system makes it so that there’s able to be support 24/7 available, because the hardware and software is the same.

If that’s the front-end and back-end vision — what are we actually here to do?

So what is ULTI.TV here to do?

Is it to stream games?
To archive history?
To train people?
To tell stories?
To grow the sport? YES HAHA
To support tournaments?
To connect communities?
To keep Ultimate free to watch?

Or is it something deeper?

Ultimate deserves better.

So we asked ourselves:

What if no one or no company can ever acquire ULTI.TV?

What if profits must always be reinvested into the community, new chapters, and global growth?

To answer that, we had to rethink ownership entirely.

wake up man, it’s not a dream 🛌 European Ultimate is back!

And the first event of the season is a screaming rocket 🚀

Three divisions of indoor action set the stage for a club championship🏆 hosted in the soon to be famous city of Herning, Denmark. That’s right, the justifiable anticipation for this event will burn the memories of this upcoming tournament into your cerebral cortex with greater retention than a Biggie Smalls banger. 😎

Club teams are making the trek from all over Europe, and it’s no surprise to see that a grand majority represent the northern population. Why is that? Because of proximity? I don’t think so. More likely because the northern playing populations are forced into gymnasiums and sports bubbles over the frozen 🥶 winter months and have developed a proficiency for the indoor game.

With 16 teams in each of the three divisions, this tidy event promises to get interesting quick, and by Saturday, ULTI.TV’s comprehensive coverage will be live streaming 🎥 the squeaky pivots, full length jersey slides, and precision ‘non-weather-affected’ throws to you, our beloved audience. 🥰

With World U24’s coming up, we want to encourage the global viewership to watch the European Ultimate Championships too. We will be running adverts for the European Ultimate Championships at the WU24’s live coverage and would love a global outreach.

What can you do?

In Leuven, Wrocław and Padova with these teams (goes to the EUF Instagram) and Heathrow these are the teams competing.

Some of the matchups in Leuven 🇧🇪 and Padova 🇮🇹 you can vote on which you want to see on stream.

Some teams are excluded from the vote because they’re team/club patrons. In these cases the bigger club community supports the elite teams getting a stream. In the long run we then remove the need for individual (elite) players to pay for the stream directly through tournament fees.

Previously, ULTI.TV had announced that if the 500 Patron milestone had been reached it would be able to add an extra day of streaming to the two that had been planned, with another day of streaming added for every 100 Patrons thereafter.

However, after seeing the strong support and enthusiasm from new and existing ULTI.TV patrons, the local tournament organising committee has stepped up and generously provided the extra budget needed to stream games live and free to watch from the whole event. This means that games will be broadcast on all eight days of the tournament, providing invaluable experience and exposure to the best young players in Europe and the world at the start of their careers.

Games from EYUC will be streamed on the ULTI.TV YouTube channel, with the WJUC games broadcast on the WFDF YouTube channel. A streaming schedule will be determined in due course.

Becoming a Patron still means that you will get a vote in future decisions and matchups, so that the ULTI.TV community can help decide which teams and thus players can bring their A-game onto the big stage. We encourage people to join us on Patreon, because this ensures additional video content, previews and shows alongside the livestreams.

ULTI.TV is excited to announce we have reached an agreement with the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) and the European Ultimate Federation (EUF) to broadcast some semis and finals for the upcoming Joint Junior Ultimate Championships (JJUC).

The Joint Junior Ultimate Championships comprises two major international tournaments which will run concurrently from the 6th to the 13th of August in Wrocław, Poland - the WFDF World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC), and the EUF European Youth Ultimate Championships (EYUC), which represent the Under-20 and Under-17 age brackets respectively.

ULTI.TV has committed to broadcasting at least the games played on the showcase field for the final two days of the JJUC, with WJUC games streamed on the WFDF YouTube channel, and EYUC games streamed on the ULTI.TV YouTube channel. All games broadcasted will be available to watch for free, both live and on-demand.

Additional days of streaming will be tied to the ULTI.TV Patreon campaign. If 500 patrons is reached, an extra day of streaming will be added, with additional days added for every 100 patrons added up to 1,000, which would mean that ULTI.TV will be able to broadcast from every day of the tournament - we encourage family, friends and the Ultimate Community to become a patron at patreon.com/ULTITV.

Becoming a patron means you get a vote in future decisions and matchups, you will get additional Patreon only access and joining the Patreon secures more Ultimate coverage for worldwide audiences.

ULTI.TV is on a mission to bring ultimate to as many eyes as possible, and this year we are looking for new people to help us achieve that goal!

Ideally we will have local broadcasting teams at each event, with two English language commentators, two local commentators commentating in the local language!

But we can also give you a stream with commentary so that you can even stream on your own YouTube or Twitch channel from your home!

Everyone can join, but how can you win?

Anyone with some editing skills or a phone nowadays can join the competition. Work the YouTube algorithm, the Instagram, TikTok, etc.

Your video must be publicly available, 1 week before the Elite (Bologna) Invite we’ll announce the winners, that’s on the weekend of April 2nd.

Videos should be at least 42 seconds. So reels, shorts and TikToks work! Anything from the 2021 European season counts!

Pro tips

• Make almost like a commercial, for 2022. Make use of the highlights and the values of the sponsors! (maybe we’ll use your video in a livestream! With permission, duh)

• Do a voice over, make animations, just be creative and keep it personal!

• Make a good opener so that viewers will stick around, the longer your video will be shown, or the more often (because how funny it is) the more views you will get in most social video algorithms.

How it works, every week there’s another storyteller/tweeter showcasing their life, from Adriana the CEO of VC to yours truly, the Community Engagement Orchestrator of ULTILEAGUE the European operations of ULTI.TV.

You get access to a very active Twitter account for exactly a week, and you can share anything!

I had a bunch of interesting discussions about my entrepreneurial life, how that is so different than venturing in the US. Did a few polls that got loads of engagement.

Of course I talked shop, ULTILEAGUE was very well received and people loved to share their opinion on this new and fresh idea which will have it’s first showcase this may.

But there’s a lot of storytellers from the US, so there should definitely be more European account runners, it’s easy to sign up even if you don’t have an account, or reply to the tweet above and they will consider you and put you on the schedule.

Future of entertainment is mixed?

I asked some questions like which has the most potential for global entertainment, the opinion were set on mixed so let us go and make that happen!

But Brittany pointed out that this Twitter account is pretty much in a bubble. Although the question was different.

Everyone can have their opinion, that’s not a reason to not chase great ideas.

But, now, grass or street with rollerskates?

And what is the next region (after EUR and North America)

It’s okay to dream, right?

Yeah, that showcase that didn’t happen in 2021, but it’s happening in 2022. South America is next? We’re already talking to the Indian federation and Australia is where ULTI.TV started sooo it might be the IIO region after all.

Maybe it's all of the above, but that doesn't stop us from hucking forward!

We're not going to do an event this year due to the lack of funds and corona restrictions.

We will start another campaign in 2021; this time we put more time and thought to it with the members and teams. We were ‘in a hurry’ because we wanted to organise a small scale showcase before the winter and before another wave in Europe.

People want this and we will find our magic formula that scales to fans.

We made encouraging progress, we have 150 new members in our community, members paid in between €10 - €100 to get memberships. The average is €14 per new member.

Members could vote on the team they want to see play in future games.

The 4 teams that won the Online Competition deserve a spot in the showcase!

Member are part of the community now, where they see the updates and share their reactions and ideas.

We talked to the teams in our forums to find a consensus on what is next. We found out it's not as simple as making a decision as an organisation.

I personally prefer to lead by example, along side always requesting feedback. This is my hierarchical but also egalitarian approach to leadership. I like to get something off the ground first and show something rather than talking about doing something.

After an experiment I like talk to people about what went well, and what could have been better.

From our whole organisation, thank you for becoming part of this, thank you for sharing your feedback, thank you for sharing our adventure with the world!

The non financial goal of the Online Competition was to activate the communities behind clubs and teams, and that worked!

We are looking at the future and we are considering a clearer crowd funding campaign. We will prepare this year and start it in 2021 to completely fund the showcase and to hit the ground running as an organisation.

5 things that could work in the future campaign

We’ve learned what could work in a potential new crowd funding campaign to make this showcase happen.

1. Clearer goal how much we need to raise to organise a league,

2. Better info of who’s behind the league and which teams are in,

3. Fans can buy discs designed by creators from the community,

4. Fans can buy shirts of the teams that are in the showcase,

5. Better offerings for companies and (online) brands to sponsor the story.

We could say our two campaigns, both the ‘Founding Campaign’ and the recent ‘Online Competition’, have been preparations for this clear campaign.

We will do this alongside other important activities

Alongside this campaign we’re talking to UK Ultimate and the European Ultimate Federation for corona safe smaller events that could grow the sport.

All while we're developing the ulti.TV platform... We will enable our people to build a cross continental content platform which is a crucial for UltiLeague to work.
